West-Indian Muraina Grass is an annual erect grass 20-30 cm
tall, with clustered round stems with branches arising from the base,
nodes hairless. It is named for named for Clarence King, 19th century
geologist on the California Geological Survey. Leaf-sheaths are
semi-compressed 3-10 cm long, narrowly ovate, hairless or sparsely
hairy, pointed-tipped leaf blades. Flowers are borne in two racemes,
3-8 cm long. Joints are club-shaped, three-toothed tips. Stalkless
spikelets are oblong, 4-6 mm, awned. Lower glumes are leathery,
narrowly ovate, 4-6 mm long, two-keeled. Stalked spikelets are narrowly
ovate, 7-8 mm long. West-Indian Muraina Grass is native to West India,
Western Ghats.
Flowering: September-November.
